A Turning Point for Unity, Identity, and the Future of Mandaeans in the Diaspora
This Op-Ed presents a comprehensive reflection on the 10th Mandaean Conference, held in the Netherlands on June 25–26, 2025, under the banner "Our Unity, Our Institutions, Our Youth — The Guarantee of Mandaean Continuity." The conference marked a historic moment in the evolution of the Mandaean community in exile — bringing together representatives of associations from across continents, religious leaders, cultural figures, and youth activists in an atmosphere of dialogue, responsibility, and hope.
Over two days of intensive discussions, presentations, and workshops, participants assessed the current state of the Mandaean diaspora, the challenges of integration and cultural preservation, and the urgent need for institutional collaboration across borders. Key reports were delivered on youth engagement, women's leadership, human rights advocacy, cultural heritage, and organizational achievements. The conference also reaffirmed the role of the Mandaean Associations Union as a unifying platform for collective action and long-term planning.
This article not only documents the achievements and aspirations that emerged from the conference, but also offers a strategic roadmap for the coming years — one that calls for a renewed commitment to transparency, shared governance, and investment in the next generation of Mandaeans. As we stand at a critical juncture in our diaspora journey, this Op-Ed invites every member of our global community to reflect, engage, and contribute to a sustainable and vibrant Mandaean future.
